B 1991 году некто Тони (Toni Wirtanen) и Антти (Antti Lautala), два друга из небольшого города Хейнола, решили создать группу. Играть собирались, кажется, что-то вроде death metal. Дело за малым – пригласив приятеля Симо побарабанить, друзья принялись за репетиции. Через год к ним присоединился басист Мэнди, а через два была записана промо-запись Mikä ihmeen Apulanta?. Ну и сразу после этого басист сменился – пришёл Тукка (Tukka Temonen), нынешний басист группы, а также режиссёр видеоклипов многих финских команд.
Ещё через год, группу покинул один из отцов-основателей – Антти. А 95 изменил всё, выдвинув Apulanta «на передовую» - их композиция Mitä kuuluu с альбома Ehjä становится хитом в Финляндии. После этого успеха, ребят прорывает, и они в бешеном темпе начинают выпускать альбомы. 12 штук за 9 лет, причём каждый становится платиновым в Скандинавии! Плюс ко всему, группа умудрилась выпустить четыре документальных фильма о своей музыкальной жизни и 16(!!) видеоклипов.
В настоящее время, Apulanta пользуется популярностью как в родной Финляндии, так и за её пределами. И это несмотря на то, что большинство песен исполняются на финском языке. There are two bands named Apulanta:
1. Famous rock band from Heinola, Finland, founded in 1991.
2. Hardcore punk band from Tampere, Finland, active in the 80's.
1. Apulanta (Fertilizer in English) is a Finnish rock band, founded in 1991 when members of the band were in their mid-teens. The name of the band means fertilizer, which they have since come to regret. Initially playing hardcore punk and hard rock, they soon shifted to a pop-rock style, and have been fluctuating between these extremes since; their songs currently tend to combine melodic and catchy choruses with heavy guitar riffs.
They have consistently topped the Finnish charts for almost ten years, and they continue to be one of the most successful rock bands in Finland. "Teit meistä kauniin" is one of the all-time biggest-selling singles in Finland. As of November 2005, 15 of their singles and 8 albums have reached the #1 spot on the Finnish charts.
Founding member Tuukka Temonen parted from the band year 2005 And they decided to take
Sami "Parta-Sami" Lehtinen as a full member to the band.
The band currently consists of founding members Toni Wirtanen, Simo "Sipe" Santapukki and the newest addon Ville Mäkinen.

Their only release was a hardcore/noise version of a gospel song "Pekka Oli Kalamies". and it appeared on a compilation Työläisten Kontrolli (1981). This tape is very rare.
