In the spring of '97, Kristie Stremel left Tri-Star/Columbia recording artists Frogpond to pursue her own vision of pop/rock. Kristie asked Rob VanBiber to join in her quest when Rob performed an impromptu audition in a local area music shop. Former TV FIFTY frontman Byron Huhmann took over original bassist Jamey Wheeler's spot in March of '98.
In January of '98 Exit 159 released their debut EP Lost On Earth (Don't Touch Me Records) to critical raves, and the two singles, "What Gives?" and "Short Ride Down", got regular rotation on KLZR 105.9 and 107.3 the X in Kansas City. They were also voted the "Best New Band" by readers at the Pitch Awards, hosted by PitchWeekly (now referred to as The Pitch). The band released their debut self-titled full-length on the same label that released their EP, and show the band continuing to explore and expand their own particular take on pop rock n' roll.
