5 piece band Flip Nixon from Vancouver, BC, Canada. Since the bands' original inception in 1994, under the name 'Doug's Mom', the band and music have evolved through various styles. Their debut cd 'Sonic Cherry Pop' was nominated for Best Independent Album at the 2001 West Coast Music Awards, and has injected the band into the Vancouver music scene with members Richard (Vocals), Shannon (Guitar), Lyle (Guitar), Jay (Bass) and Dan (Drums) later on in the career singer Richard left and was replaced by Holmes on vocals.
The year 2000 became a breakout year for Flip Nixon with the debut of a new name, the release of 'Sonic Cherry Pop',and a starring role on the hit NBC TV series "Just Deal'. The new teen drama featured the band acting as themselves, and the lip-synch performance of 'My Garden' and 'Exposure' from 'Sonic Cherry Pop'. With over ten minutes of screen time, the episode entitled 'With the Band' has propelled Flip Nixon into the U.S. market with increased cd sales, and enormous feedback on the website. each successive re-run broadens the fanbase and begs the question: "When are you guys touring the States?"
The year 2001 produced the first province wide tour for Flip Nixon, as they hit the road with Vancouver's hip hop act Swollen Members, and rising stars Booti Dharma. the tour,called 'The Flying V Tour', hit five major west coast cities, and featured seven independent Vancouver bands. Flip Nixon quickly gelled with the others on tour, and impressed media and the all-ages crowds alike, everywhere they went.
The live show is the only way to truly experience the huge energy and entertainment of Flip Nixon. The band has been playing in various forms for seven years now, and every show increases their popularity. Every show, from 25 to 2500 people, is a show. The band learned quickly that crowd interaction, humour, and energy are great ways to keep audiences excited and wanting more.
