Jakaranda is a Finnish group whose roots are planted firmly in the sands of southern Africa. We bring you songs, rythms and dance from Africa blended together with Finnish music inspired by this wonderful continent. We hope that you can sense the warm winds of the savannah as the guitar, bass and various drums accompany the four-part harmonies of the choir.
Jakaranda is a music group associated with the Finnish Evangelical Mission. The group was founded in 1985 by Pekka Simojoki, child of a missionary in Africa himself. Currently the group is lead by musician Pekka Nyman, who also plays drums and percussions in the group. There are 30 people in Jakaranda in all.
