Love for the beat thrives in Denmark. The critics helped prove this fact with their praise for 2002's eponymous debut by Nobody Beats The Beats, where a bunch of the country's best, weirdest, grooviest producers and DJs delivered a record demonstrating the art of the beat. Influenced by soul, jazz, electronica and hip-hop, the groove, the sound, the beat ruled. On this debut album the only track with vocals was The Beat Diggin' Song and with Madlib, Oh-No, Context and Tue Track on the microphone responsibilities it went on to become a sleeper hit on the Danish national broadcaster DR's video-show Boogie.

A year later, the Nobody Beats The Beats project was back in the groove with their sophomore album The Second Coming. This time a set with a broader range and greater ambitions. The central theme remained the same; to present the work of beat-loving Danish producers, some experienced, some famous, some unknown. But each living up to a standard that earns respect. For The Second Coming a number of carefully selected guests were selected to contribute to the record with fruitful results, setting in motion the idea of collaborations with international stars that was to develop in a big way.

So 2004 saw the release of the eagerly anticipated third album Drops From Above. The core elements and trademarks of the Nobody Beats The Beas philosophy are thoughout the record with a host of international hip-hop's most famous names and pioneers. Erick Sermon, Guru, Black Thought, Grand Puba, Grand Puba, Brand Nubian as well as the cream of contemporary talent; Jahi, Little Brother, Supernatural, ADL, Ty, Desiz La Peste. Just imagine it like having your favourite meal and inviting along your best friend to have dinner with. All the same ingredients are there, now there are just a few more mouths eating from the pot.

But the impressive guest list does not change the basic philosophy behind Nobody Beats The Beats. The project is a platform for the many talented Danish producers who would rather take the unbeaten path instead of hopping onto the fast-moving commercial bandwagon. Along with the album releases the formidable live show has been gaining a reputation and is now the hottest ticket in town. When they collectively play live, they share the stage with a good-sized live band with an exclusive lineup of DJs with names such as Tue Track (Track 72), DJ Noize, Scratchmagic and Steen Rock.

All this has resulted in recognition both at home an internationally. In 2004 Nobody Beats The Beats were nominated for a prestigious Danish Grammy showing that you do not have to sell out to share the stage with mainstream pop. If you stick to your principles you will find your place. Nobody Beats The Beats is back. Still planting the seeds of the beat that keep on growing.
