Rain was formed in 1986 as a three piece composed of Eli Janney, Jon Kirschten and Bert Queiroz. While Bert was a veteran player in the DC scene having been in the Untouchables, Youth Brigade, Double O and Second Wind, and though Jon had briefly played in a final incarnation of Gray Matter, Rain would be the first proper band for both Eli and him. Rain was inspired by the Revolution Summer musical movement in Washington DC and was one of the key bands of its second wave.
After playing a handful of gigs, Rain recorded twice in 1987‚ first in January with Geoff Turner at WGNS studios and a few months later at Inner Ear Studios with Ian MacKaye producing. Scott McCloud (of Lunchmeat and Soulside) joined the band as second guitarist just prior to the Inner Ear session, filling out the bands sound and adding some vocals of his own.
One track from the Inner Ear session, Worlds At War, ended up being featured on the Dischord State of The Union compilation released in 1989. Later, the full Inner Ear session (along with one track from the WGNS session) would be released in 1990 as La Vache Qui Rit, a six song 12" on the Peterbilt label.
Around this time, the band dissolved with each of the members going on to other projects; Eli and Scott would form Girls Against Boys, Bert Quieroz would join Manifesto and later Thunderball and Jon would play in The Chris Bald 96, Special K and Las Mordidas.

10. Being absolutely honest, I had some prejudice against this band due to the enormous amount of spam received in my PM account of Prog Archives and even personal mail, something to what I'm not used to, this kind of aggressive advertising produces the contrary effect than the desired by the person who floods my boxes, but it was for free in their website and the comments were pretty good, so decided to give them a chance and what I heard was really good.
To start the bio we must say that RAIN is not a band, we're talking about a multi-instrumentalist and filmmaker who plays almost every instrument in his debut album including: bass, keyboards, guitars, Jerusalem pipes, vocals, eye, with the efficient narration of Rob Brown and a group of competent musicians mostly in the chords and backing vocals.
There is not much more we can say about RAIN because his site provides absolutely no information about him and not easy to find in the net either.
Despite what Phil Collins (Well, not a good reference when talking about musical taste with a proghead), Tony Banks, Martin Offord or Tony Smith and many personalities have said about "Cerulean Blue" being the quintessential Progressive Rock experience of the 21st Century, I don't think so, the album is good but not outstanding, the sound is oriented towards Symphonic with clear Genesis references plus Pink Floyd influence with clear Neo Prog and Ambient/New Age echoes.
The choral arrangements are outstanding and the wonderful strings a la Vivaldi deserve a special mention, but the music is simple in Prog terms. Good for fans of soft Symphonic or Neo Prog.

RAIN was founded in 1997 as a result of a project started by Lars Forseth and Sonny Crow from the band Bankok Babes. They were soon joined by the Bangkok Babes drummer Per-Helge “Peppa” Bruvoll, and guitarist Tore Moren from Jorn, Arcturus and Carnivora among others. In the biggest live venue in Rhodes city, the Colorado Club, he saw and heard Michael Bormann (Jaded Heart, Bonfire, J.R. Blackmore, Zeno, etc.) perform some numbers that caught his im-mediate attention. The chemistry between Michael and the other guys was a sure thing from the first minute.
They were now joined by bass player Audun Norgaard. The boys had built up a strong set of own songs and cover songs, and was ready to meet the public.
