Sole появился на свет в 1977 в далёком северо-восточном городке Портланда - «Maine». Как раз в этот год от передозировки наркотиками умер “Король рок-н-ролла” - Элвис Пресли.
Sole записал своё первое демо в 1992 году. В него вошёл несомненный хит творчества музыканта - песня "Cops Ain't Shit," начинающаяся со строчки "I'm still pissed about Rodney,/ yeah, pissed is what they got me."
По причинам, которые он не хочет оглашать, его демо было продано в «Entertainment Resources International» - компанию работавшую с Da Brat, Kris Kross and Xscape.
Как и во многих случаях с рэперами, никто сначала не верил, что белый ребёнок, может читать в принципе, но после просушки, «ERI» прилетели к Sole, что бы записать новые песни. Не сошлось. Sole настаивал на битах DJ Premier или чём то подобном, но всё, что могли предложить ему «ERI» это музыка Jermaine Dupri.
В 15 лет, Sole пересмотрел взгляды и записал на лейбле «45 Below Records», участниками которого тогда были Alias и DJ-Cuz the Highlander, альбом группы «Northern Exposure» -« Mad Skillz and Unpaid Billz». Альбом получился, грубо говоря, мешаниной хип хопа ранних 90х вроде Lord Finesse и Black Moon и продался тиражом в 300 копий. Год спустя, ещё не отойдя от неудачи с предыдущим альбомом, располагая скудными средствами, заработанными в McDonalds, Sole записал свой первый «12»
В 1996 была ещё одна группа, Live Poets (Cuz The Highlander, JD Walker, Sole), и ещё один альбом, "What's It All About?" Это творение было бесспорно отнесено к классике East Coast рэпа, но несмотря на это приобрело большую популярность в кругах «experimental» и «underground» сцене Los Angeles. Рифмы были похожи на разломы и трещины, а тексты были чётко сбалансированы на уровне «жёсткий андеграунд-лёгкая лиричная поэзия». Несомненным хитом группы стал трэк "Think Twice".

Через сайт и радио, Sole заводит много контактов в Манхэтне и Бруклине, привлекая к своей персоне всё больше внимания радикальных рэперов. Его «12» Live Poets - "Respect" была подтверждением его таланта и интенсивного развития, завоевав прессу и college radio. Сея двенашка была продана в количестве несколько тысяч копий, дойдя до ушей таких гигантов как Doseone и Jel, Atmosphere, The Shapeshifters, и The Sebutones (Sixtoo и Buck 65).
С присущей ему смесью идеализма и «Айс Кьюбизма» Sole вскоре устал от East Coast, как течения в рэпе: "I had worked too hard to water my shit down,"говорит Sole в воспоминания, "just to gain acceptance from people who don't even share my values."
В 98м, Sole со своим другом Pedestrian, ведомые смутным результатом смелых решений, выбрали называние «anticon» и решили образовать свободомыслящий коллектив «rule-breaking» рэп артистов.
Первым открытием Антикона стала группа «Deep Puddle Dynamics», соеденившая в себе Dose, Jel, Atmosphere's Slug, Alias, and Sole, а открыл творческий путь лейбла VLS EP "Hip-Hop Husic For The Advanced Listener,". Sole, born Tim Holland, is an alternative hip hop artist and a co-founder of the anticon. collective. Sole is known for his dense, often dark stream-of-consciousness writing style. His verses are often filled with abstraction, metaphor and sarcasm while avoiding or deconstructing traditional hip hop topics. His albums and record label have been featured in magazines such as Playboy and The Wire. Sole is also a producer and releases his self-produced experiments under the alias mansbestfriend, taken from the name of his Apple G4 computer

However, the record deal fell through, and soon after, at age 15, sole got together a new group called "45 Below Records", which included Alias, JD Walker and a DJ Cuz the Highlander, now better known as Moodswing9, and together released an album titled "Mad Skillz and Unpaid Billz" under the moniker "Northern Exposure", selling more than 300 copies. At the age of 16, sole pressed up his first 12" and gave it away for free at the 1995 Gavin Convention. In 1996 sole started up a "Webzine" and online radio station, run directly from his basement bedroom in Portland, Maine. His Live Poets 12" from 1997 garnered some press and college radio play, selling a few thousand copies and leading to connections with other like-minded artists like Doseone (Adam Drucker), Jel (Jeffrey Logan), Atmosphere, The Shape Shifters, and the Sebutones (Sixtoo (Vaughn Robert Squire) and Buck 65 (Richard Terfry)). In early 1998, Sole and Pedestrian (James Brandon Best), coined the name Anticon, and together started the collectively owned record label of the same name. In the summer of 1998 Sole, Alias, and Doseone traveled to Minneapolis and together with Slug of Atmosphere recorded the first official Anticon album Deep Puddle Dynamics. Pedestrian and Sole eventually left for California, settling in the Bay Area. Anticon. is currently owned by eight members, Sole, Alias, Pedestrian, Jel, Doseone, Why? (Yoni Wolf), Baillie Parker, and Odd Nosdam (David Madson), well-known for his instrumental albums and his production work on Sole's albums.
Sole is married to Yasamin Holland. Her name and references to her can be heard scattered throughout his lyrics.
