Hank Snow - Patanio (The Pride of the Plains) слова песни

Written by - Harry C. McAuliffe - Bobby Gregory Recorded by Hawkshaw HawkinsYou look at this picture with a wondering eyeAnd then at the arrow that hangs by it`s sideThey tell a story for you know there is oneWith the name of Patanio the story begunI`ll tell you a story that will thrill you, I know Of a horse that I owned down in New MexicoSwift as an antelope and black as a crowA star on his forehead as white as the snowHis hair like a lady was glossy and fineHe was restless and proud but so gentle and kindHis arched neck was hidden by a thick, flowing maneAnd they called him Patanio, the pride of the plainsThe country was new and the settlers were scarceAnd the Indians on the warpath were savage and fierceScouts were sent out every day from the postBut they never came back so we knew they were lostOne day said the captain, someone he must goFor help to the border at New MexicoA dozen brave fellows right away answered yeahBut the captain he spied me a-standing right nearPatanio beside me, his nose in my handSaid the captain, your horse is the best in the landYou`re good for the ride and the lightest man hereOn the back of that mustang you`ve nothing to fearSo proud of my horse that I answered, you knowPatanio and I both so willing to goFor speed and endurance I`ll trust to the blindPatanio will carry my life on his backThen they all took my hand and I mounted my horseRode down the dark pathway and I turned his head horthPat struck a trot and he kept it all nightTill just as the east was beginning to lightHe answered the touch with a toss of his headHis black body lengthened and forward he spedWe were beating the redskins and the story was plainWhen the arrows fell round us like showers of rainWe were leaving the redskins and the story was plainWhen sudden in my leg that I felt a great painThe blood it gushed forth from Patanio`s sideBut he never once shortened his powerful stridePatanio, poor fellow, I knew he was hurtBut still he dashed forward and into the fortFor many a fine horse I have passed on the rangeBut none like Patanio the pride of the plain
