Linda Ronstadt - La Cigarra
This huapango was written by Ray Perez y Soto. It was recorded in the 1940`s by Jorge Negrete when he sang with the Trio Calaveras, and more recently by Lola Beltran, who is, in my opinion, the greatest voice to ever come out of Mexico. The image of the wounded dove in the third verse is a popular symbol; it is a messenger of afflicted love. L.R. The CicadaDon`t sing to me anymore, cicadaLet your singsong endFor your song, here in the soulStabs me like a daggerKnowing that when you singYou are proclaiming that you are going to your deathSailor, sailorTell me if it is true that you knowBecause I cannot distinguishIf in the depth of the seasThere is another color blackerThan the color of my sorrows.A little dove upon flyingBearing a wounded breastWas about to cryAnd told me very afflictedI`m tired of searching forA mutual love.Under the shade of a treeAnd to the beat of my guitarI sing this "huapango" happilyBecause my life is endingAnd I want to die singingLike the cicada dies.© 1958 Promotura Hispana Americana de MГєsica S.A.Copyright renewed, all rights controlled byPeer International
