Текст песни Marty Robbins - Ballad Of The Alamo

Marty Robbins - Ballad Of The Alamo слова песни

In the southern part of TexasIn the town of San AntoneThere`s a fortress all in ruins that the weeds have overgrownYou may look in vain for crosses and you`ll never see a-oneBut sometimes between the setting and the rising of the sunYou can hear a ghostly bugleAs the men go marching byYou can hear them as they answerTo that roll call in the sky.Colonel Travis, Davy Crockett, and a hundred eighty moreCaptain Dickinson, Jim BowiePresent and accounted for.Back in 1836, Houston said to Travis"Get some volunteers and goFortify the Alamo."Well the men came from TexasAnd from old TennesseeAnd they joined up with TravisJust to fight for the right to be free.Indian scouts with squirrel gunsMen with muzzle-loadersStood together, heel and toeTo defend the Alamo."You may ne`er see your loved ones,"Travis told them that day"Those who want to can leave nowThose who fight to the death let `em stay."In the sand he drew a lineWith his army sabreOut of a hundred eighty fiveNot a soldier crossed the lineWith his banners a-dancin`In the dawn`s golden lightSanta Anna came prancingOn a horse that was black as the night.Sent an officer to tellTravis to surrenderTravis answered with a shellAnd a rousing rebel yellSanta Anna turned scarlet"Play deguello!" he roared"I will show them no quarterEvery one will be put to the sword!"One hundred and eighty fiveHolding back five thousandFive days, six days, eight days, tenTravis held and held againThen he sent for replacementsFor his wounded and lameBut the troops that were comingNever came, never came, never came...Twice he charged and blew recallOn the fatal third timeSanta Anna breached the wallAnd he killed `em, one and allNow the bugles are silentAnd there`s rust on each swordAnd the small band of soldiers...Lie asleep in the arms of the Lord... In the southern part of TexasNear the town of San AntoneLike a statue on his pinto rides a cowboy all aloneAnd he sees the cattle grazing where a century beforeSanta Anna`s guns were blazing and the cannons used to roarAnd his eyes turn sorta mistyAnd his heart begins to glowAnd he takes his hat off slowly...To the men of Alamo. To the thirteen days of gloryAt the siege of Alamo...
