Romanovsky And Phillips - My Mother`s Clothes (the Drag Rag) слова песни

(This song came out of my first public drag experience at the ageof 25, which brought back many memories of earlier privateexperiences. For my mother, who still has more pairs of shoesthan any drag queen I know. -RR)I remember dressing up in my mother`s clothesShe had hordes of high-heeled shoesAnd plenty of pairs of pantyhoseShe had wigs to make me look a thousand different waysAnd blouses made of silk and lace and evening gowns for daysMy mother`s clothes, my mother`s clothesAll my dreams came true in my mother`s clothesI remember dressing up in my mother`s clothesIn the woods behind my house we`d have our fashion showsSecretly we`d gather all the old things she`d dispatchAnd soon we`d have a wardrobe with accessories to matchMy mother`s clothes, my mother`s clothesAll my dreams came true in my mother`s clothesWe could be a princess from a fairy taleOr Florence NightingaleCuring all disease in our mother`s clothesWe could be Miss Lois Lane (Oh, Superman)Or even Tarzan`s JaneSwinging through the trees in our mother`s clothesWe could be a beauty queen (There she is)Or Mary MagdaleneSinners we`d forsake in our mother`s clothes (I don`t know how to love him!)We could be Petula Clark (Downtown)Or even Joan of ArcBurning at the stake in our mother`s clothesUntil we learned it`s not okayFor a boy to dress that wayNot allowed to fantasizeWe become desensitizedTo all our waking dreamsAnd the endless possibilitiesOf roles that we can playNow some of us still dress up in our mothers` clothesAnd some of us just like to watch and some look down their noseBut we`ve all got an image that we want to conveyAnd drag is something each of us does every single day
