(sample - "back in the days I knew rap would never die" - krs one)Verse one: j-roThe year is 2004, people talk about warI had to hit the floor when the bombs began to pourTen minutes ago I was mad cause my stomach was grumblingNow the whole world is crumblingI hear people scream across the street gettin crushedThis went on for twenty minutes then the whole world hushedI couldnt see shit but I could feel myself breathinDamn Im still kickin but Im just not believinI give thanks to God then Im off on my missionAint no stars in the sky so it aint no wishinI wonder, I wonder, I just cant under-standWhy, am I the last man? Verse two:These crazy thoughts in my head wont stopWheres my moms and my pops and what about hip-hopIm pickin up things that could be of use to meToo build a makeshift crib where hollywood used to beAnd it aint no forties, it aint no bluntsI aint had no ass in five years and eight monthsFive more years pass, and I still surviveAnd Im through with wonderin whos still aliveUntil one day Im just walkin alongAnd I hear this kid singin a hip-hop songHe said, "thats the way it is, and its like that"I said, "yo kid cmere, where you learn that song at? "He said, "my daddy taught me about the hip-hop gameIm eight years old and rakim is my name"He said, "yo Ill take you to him, come follow me;But first you gotta prove that you can mc"So I cleared my throat got in a b-boy stanceAnd I ran through a rhyme that made him piss in his pantsWith tears in his eyes, he grabbed me by the handAnd then we ran, ten miles across the sandHe took me to the spot, dig deep undergroundWhere I can hear the sound of the big bass poundI wasnt really sure, but I swore we smelled blunt smokeNo joke loc, well can I get a toke? He took me to his pops and he handed me a spliffAnd out behind the wall came tash and e-swiftThey took me to a freestle session it was onI knew hip-hop would never be goneFive hundred hip-hop deepYo we cool in 2014, alkaholiks still rulinOoutro:Its gonna live foreverThis goes out to the p-town, lbntKnowhatimsayin?
