Текст песни Tom T. Hall - The HitchHiker

Tom T. Hall - The HitchHiker слова песни

I dont know why it is every time I take a tripIts always raining somewhere down the lineThis particular night was in prestonsburg, kentuckyI stopped to give a country boy a rideI saw him running toward the car, he carried an old suitcaseA cigarette was dangling from his lipsHe threw the suitcase in the back and as he got insideHe said, "im sorry, but Im awful wet."I said, "where are you headed, kid? " and he said, "to louisville"Said he had an uncle there who ran a storeSaid his daddy died three weeks ago and they didnt own the placeAnd they said he couldnt live there anymoreHe said his education was that he could read and writeHe quit school the time his dad got hurtAint much goes on in prestonsburg, and he was seventeenAnd he had to go some place to find some workHe talked about the girl whose father had a lot of moneyHe said hed send and get her if he couldHis daddy taught him all there was about tobacco-farminAnd he said he played the banjer pretty goodWe stopped to get a sandwich and the waitress brought a menuAnd I noticed that he read the prices firstHe ordered him a hot dog with a lot of table ketchupAnd water seemed to satisfy his thirstWell, it took awhile but I insisted that I pay the ticketExcused myself and went out to the carHe came out, got in the car and handed me a quarterAnd he said, "you left this layin on the bar."I dropped him off in lexington and drove down to bowling greenAnd I thought, boy youll never make it without helpAnd then I got to thinkin about the days when I was youngerAnd I started out the same darn way myselfWell, I dont know why it is every time I take a tripIts always raining somewhere down the line...
