Artifacts - дуэт из Нью-Джерси, ставший классикой американского андеграунда. Группа возникла в начале 90-х и, несмотря на эпоху, стоявшую на дворе не взялась за создание гангста рэп треков, а принялась освещать в своём творчестве хип-хоп культуру, в её классических традициях. В творчестве Artifacts можно услышать и о граффити и о брейкдансе и об окружающей нас действительности.
В состав группы вошли El Da Sensei и Tame One - двое рэперов из Ньюарка - района Нью-Джерси. Главный хит группы - сингл «Wrong Side of Da Tracks» и видео на него, показавшее райтеров и бибоев стало для андеграунда начала-середины 90-х классическим. Кстати, рэперы всегда уделяли внимание всем элементам хип-хопа ещё и потому, что кроме рэпа они сами рисовали граффити.
Первый альбом группы «Between a Rock and a Hard Place» вышел 27 октября 1994 года. Жёсткий фанковый бит, спродюссированный Buckwild и T-Ray был хорошо принят слушателями, что создало почву для дальнейшего творчества Artifacts.
Второй релиз группы - альбом «That's Them» увидел свет 15 апреля 1997 года. Однако альбом не повторил успех дебютной пластинки и вскоре группа распалась.
El Da Sensei и Tame One продолжили читать рэп, но уже в рамках сольного творчества.
В 2003 году Tame One становится участником рэп группы Weathermen, в состав которой также входят другие именитые рэперы - Cage Kennylz, Camu Тао и Aesop Rock. А через год, в 2004 в дуэте с Leak Bros Tame One выпускает альбом Waterworld.
В 2008 появляются первые новости относительно возможного воссоединения Artifacts. Поводом для этого становится совместное исполнение главного хита группы «Wrong Side of Da Tracks» El Da Sensei и Tame One на фестивале Anniversary Weekend in Newark. Однако никакой совместной деятельности за этим не последовало, так как проблемы, приведшие к распаду группы так и не были решены.

The Artifacts were a throwback hip hop duo from Newark, NJ. Their music reflected and emphasized three of the four elements of true hip hop culture: MCing, DJing, and their specialty, graffiti writing or “bombing”; both Tame One and El Da Sensei are proficient at all three. With unique styles that play off each other well, Tame and El’s graff-rap was well received by underground audiences and continued in the Jersey rap tradition of Redman and Lords of the Underground. The crew scored an underground classic with their debut single in 1994, “Wrong Side of The Tracks,” serving notice to their graffiti bombing missions and their Jersey heritage. The debut album, Between a Rock and a Hard Place, followed soon afterward. Tight, funky production provided the duo’s B-boy stance the chance to take shape. Although it contained more of the same, the 1996 follow-up album, The Art of Facts, was not nearly as successful critically, getting lost amid the burgeoning kingpin gangster attitude of Jay-Z and Nas. The Artifacts were hard-nosed backpack hip hoppers in the halcyon days of hip hop’s golden age revisited, before hip hop’s mainstream explosion and the elevating gangster hardcore style that led to the violent deaths of 2Pac and The Notorious B.I.G. The duo split in 1997 and now release singles as solo artists.
