Resin Dogs are a hip hop band from Brisbane, Queensland that formed in 1996.
The name Resin Dogs is synonymous with massive energy, huge crowds and an infectious rollcall of rhythms. Continually redefining themselves through their frenetic touring schedule, while stamping their name on acclaimed singles and two full length albums, Resin Dogs are established as one of Australia’s most successful bands of recent times.
From humble beginnings in 1996, the teaming of DJ Katch, Geoff (Jigsaw) Boardman, Dave Atkins and Chris Bosley quickly proved a unique formula. Crowds grew and continued to swell with their early shows at Ric’s and The Zoo, in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley, establishing the band’s unquestionable credentials. The sound - an undeniably hot blending of cut and paste sampling, funk, hip hop, breakbeat, and frenetic live playing.
They quickly attracted label attention as venues filled and their first independent releases were snapped up by punters in huge numbers across Australia. In 2000 they signed with Virgin/ EMI for their debut album release in a dual deal along with their own label Hydrofunk. A force in its own right, Hydrofunk is the established base for the many Resin Dogs side projects and responsible for releasing the band’s 2003 follow up full length Hi Fidelity Dirt.
The band’s two albums Grand Theft Audio and Hi Fidelity Dirt continue to attract strong sales and widespread praise from critics and fans. Vinyl sales of Grand Theft Audio grow every year as it becomes a favourite of DJs across the globe.
The Resin Dogs line up doesn't stop with its four core members. There are a number of co-conspirators who join the band for their live events and studio sessions. MC DNO (Shin Ki Row, Decipher), percussionist Peter Neville (Trout fishing In Quebec), and an impressive line up of guest breakers, MC’s and live players make any Resin Dogs show ‘an experience’ and their recordings so highly prized.
Resin Dogs scooped three Australian Dance Music Awards - Best Hip Hop Act 2001 and Best Live Act back to back 2002 and 2003. In 2004 the band was Ambassador of the largest celebration on Australia’s youth calendar - National Youth Week.
Resin Dogs have blitzed every major Australian festival year after year. Testament to the popularity and sheer talent of the band Resin Dogs have played Livid, Meredith, Woodford and Blues & Roots Music Festivals (to name just a few) and in a huge feat Big Day Out for seven years. Organisers of Meredith Music Festival said of Resin Dogs performance “…the best 90 minutes of live groove ever seen in the bush”.
The band’s collaborations and recordings feature the very best that Australia, and the world has to offer. Too many to list, the highlights would have to include the likes of DJ Ransom, Ben Ely (Regurgitator), Abstract Rude (Abstract Tribe Unique), Lazy Grey, Robert Reed (Trouble Funk), Mad Doctor X, Kenny Dope, Super Dense Child and most recently The Pharcyde, Jungle Brothers and the immense talents of the UK’s Spikey Tee. An invitation from Black Eyed Peas saw Resin Dogs support the band on their Australian tour in October 2004.
A triumphant appearance at the world’s largest WOMAD Festival at Rivermead in England and a sell-out show at London’s favourite club Cargo, which has seen many of the world’s finest DJs, signals the start of the push to play internationally for the band.
Having performed sell-out concerts across Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the UK, Resin Dogs are focused on showing the world the best that Australia has to offer. Already set to be a huge year internationally 2005 will see Resin Dogs tour the UK twice, perform in Europe in August (including the massive Sziegt Festival, Hungary) and in September will be performing and recording in London and Los Angeles.
