Milano’s roots reach up to spring 2002, when guitar indie Civil & Military Club‘s three former players came together. Ondra Zapletal, who also plays with NesseLSDorf, another band from Kopřivnice, stood behind the microphone and grabbed the guitar, Vlada Schwarz, Nierika’s guitarist, began to row the four-string bass paddle, and energetic Macek sat behind the drums. However, in May 2003 Zapletal went off to Ireland and Milano stopped playing for a couple of years.
When Zapletal returned from the Islands, he and Schwarz decided to get together and to form a new band. They asked the guitarist Pavel Pohořelský from Nový Jičín, who has been playing in NesseLSDorf with Zapletal (also known as ex Valerian’s Future leader or Vítrholc 100’s member), to join them. Jiří „Chrobák“ Chromečka, known by personal witnesses only from Kopřivnice bands Uhlí or Natasha, was chosen to be their drummer. Although having not been playing the drums for nearly eight years, he accepted the offer.
This relatively new band decided to keep the old name in the end. They created repertoire to which they could gradually add even several older pieces. Milano play hard and fast, but their music is melodic and has got mood-creative features typical for psychedelic bands in the 60’s and 70’s. They are influenced by SonicYouth, Fugazi , hard electro at the end of the 80’s or Ministry and BigBlack, nevertheless they have been labelled as PunkRock. The witty Czech lyrics describe rough personal enunciation.
After the reincarnation at the very beginning of 2006 Milano has had two public performances. The first one supported Už Jsme Doma from Teplice in the pub “U Mola“ in Žilina and the the other one was at Jentak Fest in Kopřivnice.
After several live performances they went on hiatus again, untill the oportunity to play special guest gig appeared: Ema Camelia´s second album "Krakatoa" release party took place at NoraClub in Kopřivnice on November the 16th. Milano performed as a trio (without Pavel Pohorelsky) and introduced new drummer - Tom Newerth (Nierika, Umakart). It was probably the most powerfull gig they´ve ever played.
Next concert is planned for 18th of December 2009 in the town of Studenka. It is highly possible, that after this event it will be quite difficult to see Milano live on stage again. All bandmembers are active in other bands and projects and it is really uncertain, if there will be more gigs played in this strong personal line-up. Read more on Last.fm.
