Группа создана Cornelius'ом (гитара) и Georgius'ом (вокал) в Ужгороде в 1994. После долгих поисков в ноябре 1995 присоединился барабанщик Werkoff и состав стал стабильным.
В феврале 1996 записано первое демо Burial of the Affection из 7 песен. Всего несколько месяцев спустя Каструм заняли Impertinence Studio для записи первого студийного демо, обозванного Flames by Impiety, из 2 треков +интро+аутро "средневекового" death metal, спродюссированного Корнелиусом лично. В октябре 1996 группа записала три песни для второго студийного демо Pleasure in the Deeds of Horror, спродюссированного Евгением Петрусом и Корнелиусом. Это демо было тепло принято андерграундной прессой и фэнами во всём мире. Текстовая концепция Каструм основана как на исторических событиях, так и на личных переживаниях авторов. На этом демо группа достигла даже лучшего результата и звука намного тяжелей. Вскоре Веркофф был вынужден оставить группу из-за проблем в личной жизни. Его заменил Doni из Soulrest.
На 10 октября 1998 Каструм пригласили в Банска Бистрица (Словакия), где они играли с чешскими мэтал-богами Krabathor. Это был фантастический опыт для группы.
В сентябре 1999 группа подписала контракт с украинским мэтал-лэйблом Metal Force Productions. Первым результатом соглашения стал MC релиз The Leading Spirit of Medieval Tortures.
В конце 2000 Metal Force Productions издал дебютный полноформатник группы, Hatenourisher, в МС формате. Вскоре был подписан контракт с канадским лэйблом Bloodbucket Productions, и Hatenourisher был издан на CD 25.05.2001.
За январь 2002 Castrum записали свой второй альбом, Mysterious Yet Unwearied. Он вышел на CD Bloodbucket Productions 3.12.2002.
12.08.2003 Castrum дали жару во Львове вместе с Vader!
2004 год также был успешным. Сначала - Death Metal Assault II 4.03.2004 вместе с Parricide, Mental Demise, GLOBALISED ABSTRUSE, потом - "Metal Heads' Mission Fest-V" (7-8.08.2004, Евпатория) с убийцами Pungent Stench, Neolith, Dead Infection, Toxic Bonkers, Ambivalence и другими.
В 2005 Castrum посетили множество фестивалей: "Merciless East Festival II" (Польша), "Death Metal Assault III & IV", "Smashed Ground Metal Fest", "Extreme Metal Annihilation" и "Uzhgo-Rock" (все украинские).
25-26.08.2005 записаны барабанные партии к третьему альбому. Позже, 17-20&23.01.2006 записаны остальные партии.
27.01.2006 видео к песне The Gate of the Universal Mystery создан.
Начиная с марта 2006, группа снова в концертах. "Death Metal Assault V" с Smashed Face и Datura. Затем турне по Украине с Mental Demise 18-27.03 с временным драммером Жекой.
В конце концов, в октябре сведён 3-й альбом, Phenomenonsense. Bloodbucket Productions издал его в конце 2006. Он включает 10 трэков инновационного экстремального death metal.
В мае 2009 к группе присоединяется новый басист - Родион! Сейчас Castrum работает над новым альбомом.

There are two bands with bane Castrum.
1) Black metal band from Croatia.

CastrumCastrum (CRO) was founded on a dark and stormy night in the year 1995 by the two unholy souls Insanus (guitar/keys) and Morsus Sordahl (vocal). During this year they worked mostly on lyrical and poetic conception as it was quite hard to find musicians in Croatia that were interested in playing this type of extreme music...
All was quite untill late 1996 when Set joined the band on drums and Fra. Mortes on bass. After recording their first promotional demotape (1997) entitled "NocturnalCastrum (CRO) Eden Behind Serpent Eyes", Castrum recieved quite a positive response in many underground fanzines throughout Europe and across the seas.
After the recording of this promotional demo, Set left the band and Castrum gained an aditional guitarist under the name of Dirgloch. The only problem now was that Castrum was now left without a drummer... so a studio drum machine was used to record their debut album.
Castrum returned to the dungeons to record their first full lenght opus entitled "Black Silhouette Enfolded In Sunrise" which offered 8 tracks of bewitching symphonic and epic black metal enchanced with vampiric poetry and dark atmosphere... Soon after, Castrum were then signed to Folter Records in 1998.
Because of the sudden departure of their drummer, a studio drum machine was used for the recording of the album and two open air concerts (Under the Black Sun I & II) along with other gigs in Germany, Slovenia and Croatia.
1999 was the cursed year for Castrum as Insanus had to leave for his military service...which caused a slight delay in the release of the new album. Despite this setback, Castrum entered the studio again in January 2000 to record their second full lenght album untitled "In the Horizons of the Dying Theatre". Fra Mortes Amalthea then took over the vocal duties and the album was finally finished just before he had to enter into his military service and just after Insanus completed his.
This magnificent second opus offers 11 tracks of purely symphonic black metal like none other including a "metal-ized" cover version of an ancient Croatian folk song.
