Joseph Perry aka Average Joe was born, November 8, 1985 in Los Angeles, California. Average Joe is a Producer/Emcee/DJ who hails from the fast growing Inland Empire section of Southern California. He is also the son of acclaimed smooth Jazz/ r&b singer Phil Perry. Growing up, Joe naturally developed a deep rooted love and appreciation for all music, especially hip hop. Joe got his feet wet producing and rapping in the duo "The Mindz" along with partner Rapper None Other in 2001 dropping the mix-tape "Heavy Rotation" in 05' and the official LP "Voices" in 2006. That same year, Joe relocated from Cali to Chicago and composed the free instrumental album "Joenuts : A Tribute to J Dilla" an ode to the late great producer Jay Dee who passed of lupus in February 2006, who Joe sites as his biggest musical influence to date. In 2010, Joe dropped the free instrumental album "The Newness EP" receiving much acclaim for his approach to chopping samples and elaborate arrangements. Average Joe is also a member of "The Collective" a team of rappers & producers based in Chicago, IL. Joe's resent musical contributions have been mostly featured on fellow producer/rapper & Flying Lotus's newest label find Jeremiah Jae's Lunch Special Vol. 2 - 3 Listening to his music for the first time, you will automatically get the humor in the name Average Joe, because he is not your average, duh!! 2.) Average Joe is a local rock band based in Orlando, Florida, and led by singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Joe Gray Keliikipi (born Kona, Hawaii, circa 1972). He grew up in Pittsburgh and moved to Florida to attend the University of Central Florida on a football scholarship. Leaving school, he formed Average Joe in 1992. As of 1995, it also included bassist Reggie Ingram and reed and keyboard player Steve Skinner. By 1996, still a trio, it consisted of Keliikipi, Ingram, and either Fitzroy Harris or Wayne Charles on drums. Average Joe released two albums on its own labels, Music For Everyone (1995) and Unsigned & Fine (1996). The group was selected by Musician magazine in 1997 as one of the 25 best unsigned bands in the U.S., and it was chosen to play at the Orlando stop on the H.O.R.D.E. tour. In 1999, Average Joe changed its name to the Joseph Gray Band to avoid confusion with another group with the same name.
