Mighty Joe Plum formed in Tampa, Florida in the mid-1990s. In their early career, they played in two Battle of the Bands competitions, the second of which they won. They began touring in southeastern Florida, and as radio stations picked up the song "Live Through This (Fifteen Stories)", they recorded an EP, Aardvark. The band signed to Atlantic Records in 1996 and released an album, The Happiest Dogs. "Live Through This" climbed to #6 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. The band toured all over the US, Canada, and Mexico in support of the album, playing shows and headlining with bands such as Foo Fighters, Creed, Matchbox Twenty, Toad the Wet Sprocket, and Seven Mary Three.
After a long hiatus, the band has recently gotten back together. They are playing local shows, and have begun working on new music.
