In late 1993, veteran rock singers Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart and Sting were put together by A&M Records to record the love theme for the motion picture remake of the classic story "The Three Musketeers". Michael Kamen, who composed the soundtrack, had worked with Bryan Adams in 1991, on the end title to "Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves", the multi-million selling power ballad "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You". Kamen hoped to repeat the success of that song and composed "All For Love". Adams and producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange wrote the lyrics and completed the song.

When "All For Love" charted in early 1994, it did not quite live up to its expectations and failed to be as successful as "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You". Nevertheless, the song was a Top 10 hit in virtually every territory around the world. In 1995, Bryan Adams released "Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman?", from the motion picture soundtrack "Don Juan De Marco". This third co-write with Michael Kamen and "Mutt" Lange proved to be more successful than "All For Love".

On its late 1993/early 1994 release, "All For Love" was finished too late to be included on Bryan Adams' greatest hits package "So Far So Good", which featured the (then) new single "Please Forgive Me". However, in 1999 Adams included it on his second greatest hits offering "The Best Of Me" and in 2005 "All For Love" appeared on the career spanning overview "Anthology". Some solo live versions also appeared. While "All For Love" was curiously absent from Sting's 1994 greatest hits compilation "Fields Of Gold" (A&M), it did appear on "The Very Best Of Rod Stewart" (Warner). Despite major chart success of "All For Love", it has become a bit of a rarity on latter compilation albums by both Sting and Stewart, mostly due to the fact it stands out too much from the artists' familiar songs. "All For Love" is mostly considered as a Bryan Adams song.

Other than this song, there are no recordings featuring all three artists. Bryan Adams and Sting did appear on several compilation albums together though, as they are on the same label, and they both contributed to the soundtrack of the animated motion picture "Racing Stripes". In their own right, they contributed to about a dozen of soundtracks each. In the early 1980s, Adams went on tour with Sting's band The Police. The 1986 Rod Stewart album "With Every Beat Of My Heart" includes the song "Another Heartache", co-written by Bryan Adams. Read more on Last.fm.
