Группа Hopesfall родом из города Шарлотт, Северная Каролина, появившаяся на свет в 1998 году. Большинство релизов группы выпустил лейбл Trustkill Records. В 2007группа, в составе которой остался только Jay Forrest из оригинального состава решает сменить название, ибо группа как таковая поменяла свое звучание в корне. Hopesfall начали свой музыкальный путь как христианская хардкор группа в 1998. Первый дебютный лонгплэй Hopesfall получил название «The Frailty of Words» и был издан в июле 1999 года на DTS Records. Несмотря на то что этот альбом является самым полноценным в плане количества треков, он не издается на протяжении меногих лет и на сайте самой группы про этот альбом нет упоминаний. Именно этот диск показал слушателю всю силу мелодики и самобытности группы. Спустя некоторое время и не радикально поменяв состав группа выпускает лонгплей The Satellite Years. Он был записан Мэттом Талботтом (Matt Talbott) - бывшим участником группы Hum (группа которую обожали все участники коллектива Hopesfall) в его студии Great Western Recording Studio. Его вокал так же можно услышать в песне "Escape Pod For Intangibles". Этот альбом получил много позитивных откликов как среди слушателей, так и среди критиков дав еще один толчек популярности группы. После выпуска этого альбома группа больше не называет себя христианской группой, с этим так же связан уход вокалиста Райна Перриша (Ryan Parrish).
Два года спустя группа выпускает A Types - альбом записанный в стилистике пост рок/ эмо рок. Отсутствие жестких рифов и привычного скримо вокала вызвало большое негодование в среде поклонников группы. Только два человека из состава записывавшего The Satellite Years присутствовали в студии на записи A Types (вокалист Jay Forrest и гитарист Joshua Brigham).
Старый барабанщик группы Adam Morgan вернулся в группу в 2005 взамен ушедшего Adam Baker. Но вскоре он все же опять покинул группу, на его метос пришел новый ударник Jason Trabue.
Последний альбом группы Magnetic North был выпущен 15 мая 2007. Дизайн альбома был сделан Chandler Owen - все предыдущие дизайны пластинок тоже были сделаны им.
В конце 2007 года после небольшого тура с группой Oceansize, Hopesfall объявляют о смене названия. Что официально означает прекращение существования группы Hopesfall. Для многих эта группа стала знаковой в пост хардкор волне начала 2000х - REST IN PEASE .HOPESFALL.
3 июня 2011 года состоялось первое и последнее воссоединение группы.

Although The Frailty of Words remains to this day their longest album, it has been out of print for many years and is no longer acknowledged by the band on their website. Much of their popularity came later with 2001's No Wings to Speak Of EP. Shortly after the EP was released and a few member changes later, Hopesfall released The Satellite Years to moderate success and great reviews. The album broke down the barriers of the metal sound found on earlier recordings and brought forth a beautifully aggressive yet melodic new Hopesfall.
In 2004, the band released A Types, an early nineties grunge inspired and softer sound. The album is almost completely devoid of the high-end screaming or the long melodic interludes that filled The Satellite Years. The dramatic change in sound has resulted in some distaste from older purist fans though it brought the band a whole new fanbase. Only two members that played on The Satellite Years returned to the studio for A Types (vocalist Jay Forrest and founding member/guitarist Joshua Brigham)
Former drummer Adam Morgan returned to the band in late 2005, following Adam Baker's departure. However, he has left the band since then and was replaced by Jason Trabue.
Their latest album, titled Magnetic North, was released on May 15, 2007. Chandler Owen contributed artwork for the release, and has designed all releases to date.
