There are two artist called Copycat. The first is a Swedish DJ, the second is the name of the Belgian participant for the Eurovision Song Contest 2009.
1)Copycat is a Swedish artist/producer/dj. Stemming originally from the bootleg scene, Copycat is probably most known for his creative mash-ups, blending all sorts of styles in innovative ways.
A regular on various yearly best-of lists the past few years, one of Copycat's most famous and popular bootlegs is the notorious "Fade to Pretty Vacant" from a few years back, which seemlessly blends such diverse artists as Sex Pistols, Visage, Nouvelle Vague and The Charlatans.
Among other noteworthy bootleg projects, the stand-out one is a special co-lab with AudiopornCentral.com and London pranksters Young Punx, producing a mash-up version of the band's recently released new album, "Mashpop and Punkstep".
The past few years Copycat has branched out and ventured into the field of remixing and producing.
Labbet, a Swedish one-man electro outfit, just released Copycat's electro disco version of their lovely ballad, "The heart & soul of a lion" on NineteenEightyRecords.
Copycat also recently finished his co-lab with electro diva Billie Ray Martin, remixing her latest single, "Just fascination", for her new joint venture with Cabaret Voltaire frontman, Stephen Mallinder - where Billie covers two of the Cab's most famous tracks.
Other work includes remixing artists such as Black Eyed Peas, Depeche Mode, La Roux, Pandagod, Toy Toy, Tying Tiffany, Radiohead - and Swedish up-and-coming stars Erik Hassle, Veronica Maggio and Sophia Somajo.
Copycat has enjoyed ample airtime all over the world on some of the finest radio stations around, including London's XFM, NRJ, Triple-J in Australia, Virgin Radio, Gaydar Radio UK, "Put the needle on the record with Billy Jam" on NYC's legendary WFMU, and many many more, such as Jon Hillcock's XFM New Noise (UK), Ben Liebrand's In The Mix on Radio Veronica (NL), The Smash Mix, Indie 103.1 FM (Los Angeles), Funkhaus Europa 103,3 FM's (Germany), Radio Fritz (Germany), OUI FM (France), NetFM (Belgium), Pure FM (Belgium), Alternative Portland 94/7 FM, NRJ Germany, WBAR 87.9 FM (NYC). Wave Radio (Greece), Radiu Szcecin (PL), Next FM (Moscow), 2XX 98.3fm (Canberra). RadioActive 89 FM (NZ), Neon Noise with DJ Paul V on Indie 103.1 FM (LA), Maxxhits (France), several Swedish commercial radio stations, and many more.
Currently, Copycat is working on his debut album, due out later this year. Expect his usual blend of epic and melancholy electro disco and catchy synth laden melodies.
