Группа Dust была создана в 1968 году в Бруклине, Нью-Йорк. В состав группы вошли школьные друзья - гитарист и вокалист Ричи Вайз, басист Кенни Ааронсон и ударник Марк Белл, который ещё учился в средней школе, ему исполнилось только 12 лет. Несколько лет группа репетировала и оттачивала свое музыкальное мастерство на каверах Rolling Stones, Who и других британских групп. Ребята играли в сложном для рока формате – трио. В 1970 году Dust стали записывать собственные демо и в итоге Нил Богарт (Neil Bogart) подписал их под свой лейбл Kama Sutra records. Дебютный альбом трио записало в 1971 году под одноимённым названием. Альбом был записан в стиле тяжёлого блюз-рока, явственно проглядывались параллели с Led Zeppelin и Джими Хендриксом.
