Coalminerґs Doughter
Well I was born a coalminerґs doughter
in a cabin on a hill in Butcher Holler
we were poor but we had love
thatґs a one thing that daddy make sure of
he shuffled coal to make poor mans dollar
Well my daddy worked all night on a coalmine
all day long in the field aґhowing corn
mummy rocked the babes at night
and red the bible by the candle light
and everything would start from break ґtill dawn
Well my daddy loved us kids on a miners pay
and mummy scrubed dark clothes on a washboard every day
well Iґd seen her fingers bleed
to complain there was no need
she always smiled on mummies understanding way
In the summertime we didnґt have shoes to wear
but in the wintertime weґd all got a brand new pair
from Salina to Cattlemorn money made from sellinґa horn
daddy always managed to get the money somewhere
Well Iґm proud to be a coalminerґs doughter
I remember well the well were Iґve drawn waters
well the work weґve done was hard
at night we slept ґcause we were tired
Iґd never thought Iґd ever leave on Butcher Holler
Well a lot of things have change since I went back then
and itґs so good to be to be back home again
not so much love any more not the leasure any more
exept the memories of a coalminerґs doughter
