Vintersorg — шведская викинг/фолк/прогрессив-метал-группа.
Образовалась в 1994 г. в городе Шеллефтео и первоначально носила название «Волчий трон» (швед. «Vargatron»). Первоначально участники ставили перед собой задачу расширить музыкальные границы блэк-метала, для чего использовались элементы фольклора. Состав коллектива часто менялся и в 1996 г. вокалист и гитарист Андреас Хедлунд (Andreas Hedlund) по прозвищу «Винтерсорг» решил продолжать в одиночку. Псевдоним переводится примерно как «Зимняя печаль» и образован от имени одного из центральных персонажей саги «Люди льда» (швед. «Sagan om Isfolket») писательницы Маргит Сандему (Margit Sandemo) — сына предводителя клана волшебников.
В одиночку Хедлунд записал три альбома (один мини) в стиле, все более склоняющемся к фолк- и викинг-металу. Тексты (на шведском языке) посвещены природе, горам и лесам, вокал как чистый, так и гроулинг. На этих альбомах можно также услышать женский вокал Сиа Хедмарк (Cia Hedmark).
С альбомом 2000 г. произошли радикальные изменения стиля группы — в музыке появились элементы прогрессива, лирика стала англоязычной, а в группе появился второй участник — Маттиас Марклунд (Mattias Marklund). С тех пор записано ещё три альбома. Стиль группы становится всё более экспериментальным, тексты теперь посвещены космосу и астрологии.

Vintersorg is a Swedish progressive folk/avant-garde metal band formed in 1994 in Skellefteå, Sweden under the name Vargatron (Wolfthrone in English), but was later changed to Vintersorg.
The sound of Vintersorg has vastly changed over the years, as his demo and first three albums, Hedniskhjärtad, Till Fjälls and Ödemarkens Son being folk/viking metal with black metal influence where their more recent albums, Cosmic Genesis, Visions from The Spiral Generator and The Focusing Blur are more progressive and influenced strongly by 60s/70s progressive rock. The album Solens Rötter took both the folk and progressive sound and mixed it into a more unique style.
The name "Vintersorg" has often confused people in the metal scene due to it being the BAND name and the NICKNAME of the front man and composer, Andreas Hedlund. The actual band Vintersorg consists of Andreas Hedlund and Mattias Marklund, with regular appearances from Jan Erik Torgersen, Steve DiGiorgio, Asgeir Mickelson and Lars Are Nedland.
